  1. After adding a couple of dictionaries and several fonts I would experience problems with books hanging while loading resulting in having to soft reset the device. Solution was to delete the alternative firmware and reinstall without adding any fonts or dictionaries. Maybe there is no correlation but I’d be interested to know if there is a limit to the number of fonts/dictionaries that can be added with this software.

  2. I not found in this firmware automatic shutdown function in two days when not in use. I need this function. Can you add it please?

  3. Upgraded from the previous version, with 6 dictionaries and a higher number of additional fonts (~10) installed – so far no problems. Epub-viewing is definitely much “snappier” than before :) I also love the improved handling after having device connected to computer – before I had to restart the device to restart the alternative firmware, this happens no more. If I may add two wishes :) :
    - please add support for thumbnail-view in file-view-mode. With my Calibre-based library each book has a cover as a JPG in the same directory, would be lovely to optionally have this shown…
    - please add support for partial searches. E.g. searching for “ork” gives filenames like “…work.pdf”, but not “…works.pdf” – these are only found when searching for “orks” ;)

Otherwise a great enhancement to my PRS650 – a big thanks to ebookapplications !

  5. I had tried to add several fonts and change some standart, but i didn’t met any bugs or mistakes. Maybe, the problem is in the dictionaries?!

  6. … little follow-up: seems I am wrong with the search request, it works just fine ! Sorry for the false alarm :)

  8. I have a PRS 950 and rely on the annotation features to mark up text and make comments on bookmarked pages, etc. I also use the wifi/3G. I like the applications you have in v1.10.0.3, but I don’t want to give up the original Sony reader functionality. If you could give us the option to boot up to either one when turning on the reader I’d install your firmware immediately. Is this a possible option?

  9. >>>If you could give us the option to boot up to either one when turning on the reader I’d install your firmware immediately. Is this a possible option?<<<

The following steps allows me to decide which OS to load on my PRS 350:

    A. Rename “ebookapplications” folder to something like “xxebookapplications”
    B. Turn e reader completely off
    C. Upon restarting, sony firmware will load.

To return back to the alternative firmware rename “xxebookapplications” folder to “ebookapplications”

    D. Shut down e reader
    E. Upon restarting, alternative firmware will load.

  10. Открывая PDF файлы есть баг. При перелистывании страниц, последняя строчка часто уходит под бар с часами и на следующей странице не появляется. То есть её невозможно прочитать.

Im find a bug. In PDF files last row impossible to read.

  11. Wow, page flipping works great.
I can’t see what’s new in the splash screen, but that’s not important.

For improvement: since the alphabetical order is case sensitive, can you add a ‘shift’ key in the keyboard for renaming files? That can be useful, and aesthetic.

Also, is it possible to include a text search function inside the documents?

    Thank you and congratulations

  16. I love your firmware, it’s working absolutely great on my prs-350, and being able to add a custom dictionary is a deal-breaker for me. I have 2 suggestions though :

    - As Axel asked on Jan 5, would it be possible to have thumb-nail view for covers JPG

    - Could there be a way to add your own image to be displayed on the screen when the device is sleeping ? Alternatively, where is the “wallpaper.jpg” file located in the custom firmware ? I suppose changing it for another would work, but I couldn’t locate it.

    Thank you

  17. Thank you.

    From Help:
In order to change the default wallpaper image please change wallpaper.png in root READER directory. You have to save “wallpaper” name for this file, but can use any kind of files: png, jpg, jpeg, bmp, gif, tif, tiff, tga, sgi, psd.

  18. Thank you very much for this great work. It allows me to read Russian books on my PRS-950, for which I still need a dictionary. I am grateful! I have three small comments so far:

    1. Dictionary: it is not clear to me if the dictionary displays only the word selected, or the closest match (e.g. initial letters the same). Of course the latter would be preferred (for the case of conjugated words…). However, the dictionary function does not display the currently looked-up word itself, only its translation. It would help to have in the section of the screen that has the translation, also the word that is actually being translated.

    2. Sideways reading 1. When reading a pdf “sideways” on the 950, there are a few issues: a. I cannot use the “next page” button to scroll within the same page. b. The page appears upside down, meaning, that the buttons are on the right, and in fact I have to press the “up” arrow to go to the next page, which is counterintuitive. Changing the preferred orientation in the settings does not have an effect.

    3. Sideways reading 2. On the original software for 950 I like the “two page” view for epub. This may be a next feature idea if straightforward to implement.

  19. I upgraded my Sony Reader PRS 350 to the latest version. It works well. But there is a small note: in the main menu at the top right corner there is inscription – Beta Version. does anyone know how to remove the it?

  20. Hey, is it possible to have active pdf internal links? Just like in the original fw. It is really useful in math books!

    Thank you.

  21. Thanks for this great reader firmware, reading epubs is much better than with the original firmware.
First I was a little disappointed about the file structure but I managed to get “through” it.
One problem remains:after switching into the “sleep” modus for more than 10 minutes the reader doesn´t awake and I have to push the reset button.
Nevertheless a great sophisticated work of programming.
While trying to understand the folder structure I discovered a possibility to change the firmware types.
    When alternative firmware is loaded:

    1.Shut down the reader
2.Connect it via USB to your PC
    3.”Battery will charge” logo appears
    4.Disconnect reader via task bar
5.Remove the USB cable from the reader
    6.Sony firmware loads

    Regards

  23. I already posted this in the forum a couple of days ago but it remained ignored. I installed the latest version on my prs-950 and it was working OK until after I tried to setup the wifi. I had to get help from a Russian collegue at work since all the text on that page was not translated. But then setting up wifi didn’t work on my company’s public wifi since you need a username and the interface has no provision for that. But then later when I came back from work I discovered that the reader was completely stuck on the dictionary help page. All I tried to get it out of that state failed. Connecting it to PC through USB is useless. The PC will not recognize it. So, I am now waiting for it to run out of power.
    Anybody has a better idea?
