Font sizes can be anywhere in the range of 10pt to 50pt. Number of minor fixes and improvements have been done.
We need your further help with UI localizations (translation to other languages). We still missing many of the languages, for example arabic, farci, scandinavian languages, japanese and many others.

File listing font sometimes becomes very small for no clear reason between pages (PRS-505).

Hi,
Just wondering if this will work on Prs-350?
Comment by GarryK — November 13, 2010 @ 2:41 am
The current version works only with PRS-300/505.
We are porting our firmware to x50 devises. Beta version coming soon.

Ce sera mon premier essai de firmware alternatif pour mon PRS 505.

I found some problems:
* An epub-file takes a minute or two til its loaded
* The value of the battery display jumps nearly with each buttonclick between several stages
* If I turn off the device or simply go to another page I can see the contents of the last page on empty places -> It seems that the sony-firmware clears the screen in a clearer way
* css-styles and paragraphs in an epub-file are ignored
* If I open a pdf-file and switch to landscape and also select the zoom-option “text width” the firmware ends in an endless loop when I skim to the next page. Only the progressbar shows that the display is not frozen but after an hour I didn’t like to wait any further so I had to press the reset button because no other buttonpress revitalized my PRS 505. After that the fully loaded battery was empty! Is the powerconsumption of the firmware so high? -> It would be nice if there is something like a “cancel”-button
* When I loaded the same pdf after the reset of my PRS 505 it seems that everything works with the same settings (landscape + zoom on text width). But the problem is that some lines are not readable because they flow out on top or bottom of the viewable area
* Selecting the option “switch back to sony firmware” needs also a manual reset because the hourglass-screen does not disappear even after several minutes

Works perfectly with my PRS-300. Thank you thank you thank you. No need for me to upgrade to PRS-350 as PRS-300 is sooooooooo much better with this firmware.
Questions:
* What plain english dictionary to download from the stardict website? It is very confusing.
* Once downloaded, where do we put the 3 dictionary files? Directly inside the dictionary folder or need to create an “En” folder or something.

There is some problem with PRS-505.
When I try to use dictionary and left it running – my 505 hanging!
I need to pull out SD card and turn off my reader.
But it works perfectly, when i close dictionary every time.
Thank you for you firmware! It comes much better with every new version!

Just received a 505 today and am interested in adding the dictionary.
Do I need to start with 1.6 and work my way up or does 1.9 include a dictionary and all the other upgrades?
Thanks
Comment by Geza — December 10, 2010 @ 1:28 am
I think I answered my own question. 1.9 is the only option. Here goes nothing.

PRS-505 (русифицированная) v.1.1

I’m trying it on PRS-505
Pluses:
=======
Love the ability to read .fb2 files directly (both .fb2 and .fb2.zip).
Great fonts, better contrast than original Sony firmware. Wish it was possible to control contrast via settings.
User interface is more pleasant than original Sony firmware.
Screen real-estate usage is much better than original Sony firmware (at least when reading .fb2 files).
Haven’t tried yet .djvu but that also should be a great feature.
Multiple languages support is a very good, much needed feature (for books’ text itself, I don’t need a non-English menu) !
Serious drawbacks:
==================
- ePub support is poor. Very long time to open the ePub. Power consumption is very very bad when reading ePub.
- no ability to mix native ePub reader with this version fb2 reader etc.
- no easy switching between original firmware and this firmware (power cycling drains the battery very quickly and takes a lot of time)
- size – very big compared to other localization alternatives, taking away space for books. This is not as big a drawback as the other ones though, but would be nice to be able to customize what features one wants to include.
Questions:
==========
? are you planning to support Right-to-Left languages as well as Left-to-Right?
? Would that work for .pdf files as well?
This would be a great addition to the functionality.

Oh yes, one more Plus: it does not affect the original firmware, just adds to it!
