All in the new version v1.8.0.5
Changes are:
1. Support for CBR and CBZ files (popular comics formats)
2. Support of RAR files and multi-file RAR archives
3. New localizations: Czech, Slovakian, Polish, Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian, Dutch, Hebrew.
4. Improvements of built-in dictionary UI
- Larger translation window and scrollbar
- Cursor can be moved faster with side (numerical) buttons
5. Power management optimizations. It is recommended to use power switch to turn device off when you finished reading.
6. Numerous minor fixes and improvements.

Firmware is amazing. Dictionary shortcut keys are great and the addition of a sliding bar to go in pages in dictionary is a Godsend as my dictionary usually has more pages and info to give. Thanks a lot.
To all readers, which dictionary file do you find the best to work with? If you share the link we all would be grateful, so as to learn and use it.
Thanks!

…problem with trimming long names (stroke) in FILES menu remain

This fw version very quickly drains battery on my PRS-300 reader, clocks and battery icon updates themselves without page-turn (bad). Reader is able to work no more than 10-12 hours without shutdown.
I love this fw, hope those bugs will be fixed soon. Great work, thx and good luck!

After full-charging, the effect of quick battery drain is gone, clock and battery icon does not update themselves without page-turn anymore… Mystic
If this bug show up again, I’ll post here.

Nice firmware. however I leave the same comment as in the forum:
wouldn’t it be better first to fix the problems the current firmware has, instead of adding new feautres ?
Among others:
- Better PDF support, it takes ages to browse the next/previous page inside a PDF file. The original software is much, much faster in this case.
This makes the PDF format almost unusable.
- Add a good zoom for PDFs, a must if you want to support this format.
- Open an epub or fb2 file, jump to any page in the middle of the book and now try to move to the previous page. It will take a long time until it turns the page ….
- Some fb2 files I generate with calibre (the best format supported in this firmware) cannot be displayed even with the new firmware.
- Proper epub support

Good firmware. But I agree with dolmen, main bugs are still not fixed: book freezes after 20-30 pages (fb2.zip, PRS-505). It does not actually freeze, if I press buttons many, many times it begins work again. And book does not shutdown using power switch after reading.

Hello, I’ve tried 1.8.08.
I’ve tried the new CBZ/CBR reader and I’ve found I can’t scale the image in any way!
There are big border around that I think can be cut (maybe sacrificing a little the AR but on the small 300 screen al that “blank” is wasted)!
There is no way to change the orientation, too…
The PDF bug continues to be present I can select “set visible” and the PDF is zoomed in the right way, but at the end of the page:
1. Sometimes the last row is badly cut (as if reader sees PDF as an image and not as text!)
2. In the following page the text not continue but a BIG part of the previous page is repeated.
It’s pity because in this way the efforts to make PDF readable is wasted!
If this little problem go away I can use EbookApplication for PDF reading…

Sony.

Great work! I’m not missing a Norwegian language interface, but I miss the English interface to recognize the Norwegian letters æ, ø and å (Æ, Ø and Å in capital letters). I will start to use this wonderful firmware when that is in place. (The same letters is found in the Danish alphabet.) Cheers!
Comment by Petter Jacobsen — October 11, 2010 @ 6:45 pm
Why not take the Swedish special characters in the same run: ä, ö and å (Ä, Ö and Å in capital letters). I noticed that it didn’t recognize that in txt-files as well.

Thank you very much for the work done. The functionality of the device has increased significantly. Everything is fine, but annoying just one moment when the book turn out top button, the next day you discover reader included with the discharged battery. Include the book is obtained only after charging. Every time they perform a ritual to completely turn off, and for the next reading – the inclusion of a window boot firmware. Still have some problem with support for memory cards, all hang will only occur when the inserted card.
Thank you again for the excellent work!
